The Black Mamba Film Starring Kobe Bryant
Nike is learning that spending some dough on creating a viral video can bring more traction (pun intended) than a 30 second TV commercial. Thus, we have “The Black Mamba” – a short film that stars Kobe Bryant (and some other stars that will remain nameless as you’ll see why). The film even slightly pokes fun at itself for its product placement. “Product placement (as a closeup of shoes is shown) gives us a bigger budget. Bigger budget means bigger explosions” at which point there’s a huge explosion. Will The Black Mamba be able to take out multiple villains and save the day? Or will he die from a fall off a big building while playing basketball on the roof? Here’s the answer…

Short Film – Bad Continuity Editing
This is a very clever and creative short film titled, “Your Editing Lacks Continuity” in which a family criticizes one of their own for not doing a good job with the continuity and editing of the film. Continuity is the process of making sure that everything matches from one scene to the next. Filming is often filmed out of order in movies and as such it is important to make sure that there is continuity. For example, a bunch of indoor scenes may be filmed one day and outdoor scenes a few days (or weeks) later. If the events take place on the same day then what a person is wearing must match (along with hair style, accessories, etc.). Movies have dedicated continuity artists that make sure this happens. But what if you didn’t have a continuity artist? Then you might get something like this short film (parental warning: some bad language – bleeped out).

Intel Inside Short Film – The Chase
This is a very clever way of promoting a product. In introducing its new second generation Intel Core i5 processor, Intel decided to create a short film that brilliantly mixes live action with computer sequences, animation, and even video games. It’s a very entertaining short film and you’d never know it had anything to do with Intel if it wasn’t tagged onto the beginning and end.
Spending time and money on a creative project like this pays off much better than a TV spot when the video goes viral like this one has…

Lego Click – The Lego Thief
This is a real trippy short movie made by Lego that shows a man with god-like abilities stealing Legos from kids to build his creations. The movie is supposed to show that all it takes is a few Lego bricks to make something “click”. But in it’s own way it’s kind of creepy too. But it could also explain what happened to some of those Lego pieces you thought you misplaced when you were a kid…
